Why convert MP4 to WAV
- Editing in your DAW. Convert to WAV and edit in your DAW without losing quality on every save.
- Samplers and drum machines. Most hardware samplers, drum machines and DJ controllers require WAV, not MP4.
- Sampling from a video. Chop video audio into samples. Every sampler reads WAV and cuts exactly where you want.
Audio quality and file size
We pull the audio from the video. Most videos have compressed audio, so when we expand it to WAV, it stays at that compressed quality level. From here on nothing more gets thrown away. You get about 10 MB per minute at 16-bit, about 15 MB at 24-bit. WAV is bigger than the video file, but every tool reads it and your DAW won't lose anything more.

Get the video off your phone
Tap the pad and the phone opens its picker. Where the video hides depends on the phone.
iPhone
- Photo Library. Videos you shot, saved from TikTok or Instagram, or downloaded with a browser extension are here.
- WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage. Open the video in the chat, tap Share, then Save Video. It lands in Photo Library.
- Choose File. Opens the Files app: iCloud Drive, Downloads from Safari, and Google Drive or Dropbox if their apps are installed. Missing a cloud? In Files tap Browse, the three dots, Edit, and switch it on.
Android
- Videos or Gallery. Camera clips, screen recordings and saved TikToks. If the picker opens on Recent, tap the menu and pick Videos.
- Downloads. Anything you downloaded in Chrome.
- WhatsApp. Videos show up under Videos too. If not, Internal storage, Android, media, com.whatsapp, WhatsApp, Media, WhatsApp Video.
- Google Drive. Sits in the same picker menu when the Drive app is installed.
What you get
- A WAV at 16-bit or 24-bit, 44.1 kHz. About 10 MB per minute, 15 MB at 24-bit.
- Files up to 10 minutes, from your device only. A YouTube or TikTok link does not work, download the file first.
- Title, artist and cover art are not copied over.
- The file keeps its name plus what changed, like beat-128kbps-mono.wav.
MP4 to WAV FAQ
Will the WAV sound better than the MP4?
No. WAV stays full quality from here on, but we can't add back what the video's compression threw away. The WAV sounds exactly like the video, just much bigger.
Can I get a 48 kHz WAV?
No. The output is always 44.1 kHz. If your DAW session runs at 48 kHz, import the WAV and the DAW converts it on the way in.
Should I pick 16-bit or 24-bit?
16-bit is enough for a file from compressed video. Pick 24-bit when your DAW or sampler runs at 24-bit and you want every file in the project to match.
