Audio Cutter

Trim the start and the end of a track, cut a part out of the middle, add a fade in or fade out and save it in the same format. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

  1. Drop an MP3, WAV or M4A on the pad, or click it to choose a file.
  2. Drag the yellow bar on the left to set where the cut starts and the one on the right to set where it ends. The grey parts are removed.
  3. Press Play to hear the selection. Playback stops at the end handle.
  4. To cut a part out of the middle, click the waveform where the part starts and press Split. Two yellow bars appear: drag them apart until the grey gap covers the part. Playback skips the grey gaps.
  5. Turn on Fade in or Fade out. Drag the circle on top of the curve to make the fade longer or shorter, and the circle in the middle of the curve up or down to bend it.
  6. Wrong move? Undo with ⌘Z or Ctrl+Z, redo with ⇧⌘Z or Ctrl+Y, or use the arrows in the toolbar. The left and right arrow keys move the playhead by one second.
  7. Press Save. The file downloads in the same format with -cut added to the name.

A fade in raises the volume from silence over the first seconds of the cut. A fade out lowers it to silence over the last seconds. Use them when the cut starts or ends in the middle of a bar: without a fade the edge clicks and the loop sounds chopped. A ringtone, a TikTok snippet and a beat preview all sound finished with a fade out of one to three seconds.

The curve starts out equal-power, the shape most DAWs use by default: the volume drops slowly at first and faster at the end, which the ear hears as an even fade. Drag the middle of the curve up for a fast start that settles slowly, like a logarithmic fade, or down for a slow start that rushes at the end, like an exponential one. The curve on the waveform is the exact curve applied to the sound.

  • The same format, sample rate and channels as the file you dropped. MP3 and M4A are encoded again at the bitrate of the source, WAV keeps its bit depth and is cut sample by sample.
  • Files up to 10 minutes, from your device only. A YouTube or TikTok link does not work, download the file first.
  • Title, artist and cover art are not copied over.
  • The file keeps its name plus -cut, like beat-cut.mp3.
  • Need MP3 for a phone or WAV for a DAW? Convert the cut with the audio converters.

  • Ringtones. The hook of a song, 20 to 30 seconds, with a fade out.
  • TikTok and Instagram snippets. The part of the track that goes under the video, cut to the length of the clip.
  • Beat previews. Thirty seconds of a beat with a fade out, for a store or a post.
  • Silence and count-ins. The empty seconds and the click at the start of a recording, before the first bar.
  • Sample chops. The two bars you want to load into a sampler, cut from a full song.

Does cutting an MP3 lose quality?

A little. The cut is encoded again at the bitrate of your file, so a 320 kbps MP3 stays 320 kbps and you will not hear the difference. A WAV is cut sample by sample and loses nothing.

How do I make a ringtone?

Drop the song, drag the handles around the part you want, add a short fade out and save. iPhone ringtones must be 30 seconds or shorter and in M4A: cut the file here, then convert MP3 to M4A and rename the ending to .m4r. Android takes any MP3.

Can I cut a video or an MP4?

No. Pull the sound out first with the MP4 to MP3 converter, then cut the MP3 here. The picture is not kept.

Can I cut a part out of the middle?

Yes. Click the waveform where the part starts and press Split. Two yellow bars appear: drag them apart until the grey gap covers the part. Drag a bar back to bring audio back, Reset returns the whole track.

Can I save the pieces as separate files?

One file per run. To save several pieces, cut them one at a time: save the first, press Reset and cut the next.

Can I join two songs?

No. The cutter works on one file at a time and only removes audio. Joining or merging files is not supported.

Is my track uploaded?

No. This is a fully local audio trimmer that runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so an unreleased track stays yours.

Which formats can I cut?

MP3, WAV and M4A, up to 10 minutes long. The result is saved in the same format. Saving M4A needs Chrome or Edge on a computer; other browsers save the cut as WAV.
