She was seventeen That should put things into scope Working two jobs and she still was broke Tryna pay for college, student loans It been this way since a child, but now she's fullgrown And her momma still drunk and her daddy still ain't come home Every day is just the same and she's losing all hope But nobody takes her in and they treat her like a joke She feels like she's drowning but she tries to stay afloat Every day is a war, wants to give in but she won't Cause then she'll grow up just like her momma showed Without a penny to her name, and empty void in her soul So she keeps pushing even though she so broke Wiping down the tables telling herself this is where she was meant to go But her one wish in the world is to have someone to hold And she just feels invisible, no one would care if she don't Every show up again, that's when it hit her oh Heart said yes but her mind said no But even as she fought it she wasn't in control So she grabbed the bottle and she hung up the rope In the alleyway Said a prayer to above Apologized for everything that she's done "Sorry God but it just got too much Been here seventeen years but I can't find love Nobody cares, so I'ma give em what they want It hurts so bad, and I'm ready to be numb" And that's when she jumped He was eighteen So young but so broken Every day felt robotic, just going through the motions Shit hurt so bad that it threw things outta focus But he liked the hurt cause it kept him going Fell in love with the pain because it never let go yeah It reminded him he was still alive and goin He'd been underwater so long that he was scared to be floating Liked how it felt at the bottom of the ocean In reality though, his lungs were exploding But he never tried to swim cause he didn't deserve it The people in his life taught him he deserved the hurtin He'd stopped looking for love because he wasn't worth it The kids at school beat him black and blue, he was running, they screamed he was worthless He hid in the alleyway collapsed in the dirt but When he lifted his head he saw something that left him wordless The girl was, half dead but her fate wasn't certain He ran to her side helped her down, feeling nervous In that moment of clarity he knew this was his purpose He wanted to cry when she opened her eyes to the surface He whispered in her ear "it's gonna be alright I've got you now, I know your fight" To prove it he pulled up his sleeve and he showed her the lines And for the first time ever, she was glad to be alive she was glad to be alive...
