One-of-a-Kind
Passed the test when I was just a kid. Shoulda seen what I done: shoulda seen what I did. Everyone special: everyone like me. Evaluator said, "you the best I ever seen." How am I the best? They all passed the test. How am I better than all the rest? The volume of your heart and the content of your dreams: these are the things that make you unique. That's what she said with her tongue inside her cheek. She told every student every time that she could speak. I won first prize for the drawing that I drew: for a first grade kid, it was pretty good too. Had a feeling of pride, and the feeling was new. Gotta work, work hard: gotta get my due. Mom and dad: proud of what I'd done, so they hired a tutor to teach their son. Lessons were expensive: it was fun. My art would amaze: my art would stun. They deceived me. They totally lied. Plans for my future were denied. Want to go to college and focus on my craft. "You can't do that," they said with a laugh. "Doctor or dentist, cuz that's where it's at, or we won't give you money for that frat." Said I was special. Believed what you said. I believed all the lies that you put inside my head. Don't want to be a dentist: I'd rather be dead. Rather reside inside a shed instead. (tempo change) The thing that made me special: you want me to forget? Just because you think that it's not a safe bet? You won't have to worry: you won't have to fret. I don't want your money: You can keep your check. I'll rise to the challenge: I'll rise to fame, and everyone will soon know my name. I'll be one of a kind, while you refuse to change. I'll be different, while you stay the same. (tempo change) I'm king of this scene: you'll provide the crown. Steppin' up to the challenge, while you step down. Down into obscurity where you belong: just another victim in another song. My volume's too high: can't turn me down. Spitting out rhymes at supersonic sound. This beat is the cliff: my lyrics, the ground. My anger the push that pushes you down.
