Twenty-Four
Yeah… I was young, but I seen things kids shouldn’t see… … Watched my whole world change right in front of me… … I watched my dad hurt my mom when I was younger… Now he’s doing twenty-four, consequences finally caught him… … I remember all them nights, swear they made my heart colder… I was just a kid, but I felt like I had to be older… … I was the only one that would stand up and say something… Even when I was scared, I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing… … I watched my mama go through pain from too many people… Different faces, same story, evil always looked so equal… … So I stood up… Looked ’em in their eyes… And said, “Don’t you ever put your hands on my mama.” … ‘Cause that’s the woman that raised me when nobody else would… Taught me keep my head high and be the best that I could… … I got pain in my voice, you can hear it when I’m rappin’… A lot of things happened that I wish never happened… … But I’m still here… Still breathin’… Still fighting through the demons… … They see me smile now, but they don’t know the reason… I had to grow up fast, I was barely even breathin’… … [Hook] Yeah, I came from a place where the nights felt long… … Had to act like I’m strong when everything went wrong… … Mama, don’t worry, one day we gon’ make it out… … Everything we went through, that’s what made me now… … I got scars you can’t see, I got pain I don’t show… … But I promised myself I ain’t never letting go… … They can judge my life, but they don’t know my trauma… … One thing I’ma stand on — don’t put hands on my mama.
