I read Mark five and saw myself there: A man lost in darkness, met by grace. They saw the chains, the shame, the scars— Jesus saw a soul He could restore. I know those tombs by different names: Prison, drugs, isolation, pain. I chased relief through every escape, And lost more of myself with every taste. [VERSE 1 — THE TOMBS] Jesus crossed the sea for one broken man, Into the dark where the righteous wouldn’t stand. He walked toward the wreckage, straight through the night, To find a heart still waiting for light. I’ve known those tombs: cells, houses, shame. Thirteen years swallowed by the system’s name. Eleven felonies, labels like chains— Addict, criminal, failure, blame. But God saw what I couldn’t see: A life beneath what had buried me. Every high was a borrowed escape; The more I ran, the more I erased. [HOOK] I was living in the tombs, but Jesus called my name. Thought I was too far gone, but He broke every chain. I ran from the pain, from who I’d become, Then I found the Savior, and healing had begun. They remember who I was, but that’s not who I am. Buried in my past, He pulled me from the sand. From the tombs to truth, from darkness to light— If Jesus changed me, He can change a life. [VERSE 2 — THE CHAINS] Chains can hold a body, but not heal a soul. Prison bound my hands; addiction took control. I left one cage, still locked inside, Until surrender opened what pride had denied. I stopped making excuses, Stopped blaming everyone else. Stopped waiting for a rescue And finally faced myself. December thirteenth, twenty-twenty-four— I chose a different life. And somewhere in surrender, God brought my heart alive. [VERSE 3 — LEGION / IDENTITY] “My name is Legion”—I know that sound: When your wounds become the name you’re known by. Prisoner. Addict. Criminal. Failure. But God said, “That’s what you’ve been through— Not who you are.” Grace doesn’t erase the past; It gives the scars a different meaning. What tried to bury me Became the proof that I was healing. Some still expect the old me. They don’t have to understand. Every sober day is one more page God writes with a steady hand. [BRIDGE — SPOKEN] Jesus didn’t say, “Go become famous.” He said: Go home. Tell your friends what the Lord has done. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m telling you what He did for me. [VERSE 4 — SENT BACK] The man among the tombs became a voice in the streets. The feared became someone the broken could meet. Jesus turned his darkness into a living flame, And gave his shame a purpose and a name. I’m not hiding where I’ve been. I’m reaching those still trapped: The prisoner without hope, The addict ashamed to ask. Brother, you’re not too far gone. If God brought me through the night, He can lead you into dawn. I’m living proof redemption’s real— Not just a word, but something you can feel. [FINAL HOOK] I was living in the tombs, but Jesus called my name. [OUTRO] I read Mark five And recognize the tombs: Isolation. Bondage. Shame. The feeling of being too far gone. But Jesus still enters dark places Looking for the lost. He didn’t change my past. He changed what it’s for. The prison. The addiction. The pain. Now they’re a testimony For those still living among the tombs. If He did it for me, He can do it for them.
