Tales of coming news
Verse 1 I'm so tired of hearing tales of coming news, Every station got a scare, every anchor got a fuse. Talking doom and destruction, got the whole world shook, But half these talking heads never stepped outside the book. I'm from the school of hard knocks, where reality hits hard, Not from a fancy office sitting safe behind a yard. Mama said, "Think for yourself, don't believe every word," Nowadays that's the wisest thing I ever heard. Chorus I'm so tired of hearing tales of coming news, Everybody got a theory, everybody got views. They keep feeding us a story while they're selling us a lie, I'm just trying to keep it real while the years keep rolling by. Verse 2 Back in the day we had a boom box on the block, Kids playing stickball while the old heads watched the clock. No twenty-four-hour cycle trying to fill the air, Just neighborhood gossip and a little wear and tear. Now it's panic by the minute, every second's a debate, Every little bump in the road means the world's gonna break. I'm just sipping black coffee watching sunrise through the blinds, Trying to keep a little peace inside my mind. Verse 3 They got experts on the screen saying this and saying that, But the people paying bills know where the truth is at. Working double shifts, trying to stretch a dollar bill, While somebody in a suit tells us how we're supposed to feel. I ain't buying all the drama, I ain't falling for the bait, I've seen enough in my lifetime to separate fact from fake. So I keep my circle tight and my ears to the street, That's where real life and reality meet. Chorus I'm so tired of hearing tales of coming news, Everybody got a theory, everybody got views. They keep feeding us a story while they're selling us a lie, I'm just trying to keep it real while the years keep rolling by. Verse 4 Old-school mentality, keep my head on straight, Never let another man's fear decide my fate. Seen recessions come and go, seen the good and the bad, Seen folks lose everything and bounce back from what they had. That's the spirit they forget when they're pushing all the fear, People stronger than they know when the pressure gets severe. We survived every storm that they swore would be the end, And we'll do it all again if we have to, my friend. Verse 5 So the next time they announce another sky-is-falling tale, I'll be living my life while they're chasing ratings sales. Got a beat in my chest and a dream in my soul, Not letting all the noise keep me from my goal. From the park jams to the porches, from the city to the sticks, Real life ain't a headline and it ain't about the clicks. So I'm turning down the volume, letting common sense choose, 'Cause I'm so tired of hearing tales of coming news.
