Truth Cost Something by Joy Payne

Why do we resist the truth? Why do we cling to what feels good more than what is good? Why do we build so carefully around what can still break? The room stayed silent. Then someone in the back whispered, "Because truth costs something." The Moderator nodded. "Yes." "And because lies are easy to borrow." --- ## Hook Truth cuts through the noise. Truth stands when the world decoys. Truth won’t bend, won’t break, won’t fade. What’s built on truth is the only thing that stays. Truth cuts through the noise. Truth stands when the world decoys. Truth won’t bend, won’t break, won’t fade. What’s built on truth is the only thing that stays. --- ## The Rap The kid in the corner cleared his throat. "Can I say something?" The room turned. He shrugged. "People say, 'my truth,' like truth is mine to assign. But facts don’t twist just because I don’t like the line. If I call wrong right, that still won’t make it right. If I hide from the dark, I don’t create the light. A lie may look calm, may feel warm for a while, But it cracks under pressure, it won’t hold up in style. Truth may sting at first, yeah, it hits kind of hard, But a clean cut heals better than a wound in the dark." The room nodded, quietly impressed. --- ## Bridge The Pastor looked around the room. "Maybe truth is hard because it asks us to change." The Therapist nodded. "And maybe that is why it heals." The Elder folded his hands. "The truth can be painful before it becomes peace." The Detective added, "But it still leads home." The room sat with that for a moment. Then the Moderator spoke again. "So the question isn't whether truth matters." He paused. "The question is whether we will build on it." --- ## Closing Hook Truth cuts through the noise. Truth stands when the world decoys. Truth won’t bend, won’t break, won’t fade. What’s built on truth is the only thing that stays.
