everybody need me

They gon’ miss me when I’m gone — facts. Whole house lean on me — that’s that. Phone ring, door knock — back to back. Everybody need me — who got my back? They gon’ miss me when I’m gone — watch. I’m the glue in the cracks of the drywall spots. I don’t talk big — I just hold the block. When I step out, whole structure drop. Wake up — request. Midday — stress. Evening — “can you?” Night — no rest. Ride here. Fix that. Check him. Handle that. Everyday something — it never slack. I’m the quiet one stacking the weight. Everybody eating off moves I make. I don’t complain — I calculate. But even strong backs start to ache. They think I’m built for unlimited load. Like pressure don’t chip at the soul. Like being the answer don’t take a toll. Like carrying ten don’t bury the whole. Call me daily — barely “you good?” Need me steady — rarely they should. I’m the engine under the hood. Car don’t move if I don’t push. Fall back once — panic text. Now it’s “bro where you at?” — respect. Funny how silence collect more checks Than years of showing up correct. I can’t slip — eyes on me. I can’t dip — rely on me. I can’t quit — depend on me. But who the hell defend on me? I’m the beam in the ceiling frame. I’m the calm in the heated flame. I’m the fix when the wiring strain. I’m the part they don’t name. Till I’m gone. Then it hit. Then it sink. Then it click. Then they think — “Damn, he really held this place.” Yeah. But you don’t see pillars — you see the paint. Subtract me — structure bend. Remove me — cracks extend. I ain’t loud — I just amend. They gon’ miss me when I’m absent.
