Marked at the Jabbok
Verse 1 Midnight by the Jabbok, river whispering truth, Running from Esau, from the lies of my youth, Heel-grabber hustler, birthright thief, Blessed by a promise but haunted by beef. Angels on the ladder, but demons in mind, Praying for protection while I’m scheming the grind, Dropped my whole camp, sent the family ahead, Left alone with God and the words He said. Shadow stepped forward, grabbed hold of my frame, Not flesh, not blood, something holy in the pain, Locking up souls, not just bones in a fight, This ain’t MMA, this eternity night. Sweat hit the dirt, every breath was a vow, If You want my future, You can have me now, Grip tightening faith while my ego collapsed, When heaven applies pressure, the mask gets snapped. Hook I won’t let go till the blessing fall, Even if it breaks me, I’m answering the call, Limp in my walk but I stand up tall, When you wrestle with God, you don’t lose at all. Verse 2 Hip touched—one move—my strength got erased, One finger from God put me back in my place, Power in weakness, now the truth gets aired, He said, “What’s your name?” I said, “Deceiver—Jacob.” Stared. Had to confess it, couldn’t posture or flex, No altar call without the context, No new crown without the old man’s death, No blessing spoken till I lost my breath. Clinging while crippled, faith gripping bone, “If You don’t bless me, I’m not going home,” Sun creeping up like resurrection light, When obedience bleeds through the end of the night, New name dropped heavy—Israel stamped, Prince who wrestled God and refused to camp In the past I ran from—now I face my fears, Limping toward Esau with redeemed tears.
