Many years ago I wrote this as a letter to my then-boyfriend while he was locked up for the millionth time. He did in fact come home, he did tell me what I wanted to hear. Plot twist: shortly after being released,he then got arrested again went back inside. He continues to falls victim to his many vices and his institutionalised brain keeps him a prisoner physically and mentally. I focus on my end game now, and that’s just being a mum. I don’t hold grudges so he’s very lucky that the door will be open when he finally grows up and wants a relationship with his babies. I just pray it’s not too late. I loved him when he couldn’t even love himself. I believed in him when he had no faith in himself. I held him up high on a pedestal when it should have been me being held up. I used to be embarrassed, but now I always hold my head up high.
