Just One Break

"Just One Break" (Verse 1) I’m out here on the corner, all alone in the night, Cardboard's my mattress, under streetlamp light. Lost in a world where dreams fade to black, Tryin' to hold on, but hope don’t come back. (Verse 2) Pocket’s full of nothin’, thoughts full of pain, Eyes to the sky but there ain’t no rain. Dry as my luck, as cold as my fate, I’m knockin’ on doors, but they don’t open the gate. (Verse 3) Each day’s a battle, I’m fightin' just to eat, Scuffin' up my shoes on this endless street. Single and lonely, got no one to call, When you’re down this low, no one catches your fall. (Verse 4) The city's alive, but I’m just a ghost, Invisible shadows, I’m hurtin' the most. People walk past like they don’t even see, I’m shoutin' for help, but they just let me be. (Chorus) Just one break, that’s all I need, One bit of light to cut through this bleed. One good chance to rewrite this rhyme, 'Cause I’m tired of runnin' out of time. (Verse 5) See a happy couple, hand in hand they glide, While I’m out here strugglin’ to keep my pride. I look in the mirror, see a stranger’s face, Wonderin' how I ever ended in this place. (Verse 6) Nights get longer, days turn gray, Hope’s a candle that flickers away. Still got a dream but it’s worn and torn, Holdin' it close like a rose with a thorn. (Verse 7) Maybe tomorrow, I’ll find my way, Climb up this ladder from the alleyway. ‘Til then I’ll walk through the midnight rain, Holdin' out hope to kill this pain. (Chorus) Just one break, that’s all I need, One bit of light to cut through this bleed. One good chance to rewrite this rhyme, 'Cause I’m tired of runnin' out of time.
