I grew up with a man who was supposed to be my guide But instead he was the one who filled my heart with lies I looked up to him, thought he was my hero But all along he was the one who caused me sorrow He walked out on us, left us all alone Said he had to find himself, find a brand new home But what about us, what about his own blood? He turned his back on us, left us stuck in the mud I was just a kid, trying to understand Why my own father would turn his back on his own fam I felt abandoned, lost and full of pain Betrayed by the one who was supposed to keep me sane But I won't let his actions define who I am I'll rise above the hurt, I'll be my own man I'll break the cycle, I'll be a better father I won't let myself be betrayed by my own father
