I usually feel it's the lack of equipment. However, there isn't any way to blame any of the quality on equipment when the lyrics are meaningless.... Along with the mixing & mastering lacking tremendously.
If creating music is your passion I feel the best advice I could give, is to find yourself so you can be unique. Because being average, won't get you to the money...
