Kargam Pooja

Today is the second day of Kargam Pooja dedicated to the South Indian Goddess “Raja Mariamman”. In Edmonton. I was invited by the main Pujari in person and then thru text. I have mentioned this before that I donated hundred dollars to the main Pujari during the “Fiji Fact” soccer tournament. For this year “Kargam Pooja” without knowing that the prayer was for Goddess Mariamman. Now the main part. Three decades ago one of my sister caught a skin disease. Just her legs became filled with boils. Hundreds and thousands of them. I remember my sister crying while my mom tried to pop some. My parents took her to so many witch doctors. The skin disease my sister caught is called “Draunikau” in native Fijian. The disease my sister caught was spiritual I know this because it wasn’t contagious. My parents took my sister to the Nadi Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami temple. The most beautiful and largest temple of Fiji Islands. Even though my parents were totally oblivious. That it was the second day of the Pooja of Goddess Mariamman. Goddess Mariamman is the Goddess of curing physical and mental diseases. Mostly chickenpox. According to my mom the lady Pujari at the Nadi temple did a specific prayer for my sister and asked my parents to not leave without eating the food because according to the lady Pujari that was the main prasad. Goddess Mariamman actually healed my sister forever. According to my mom the lady Pujari didn’t take any money either. After three decades I donated towards the prayer of Goddess Mariamman. Totally oblivious. Very meaningful experience.
