Can’t Breathe” Yeah… How we scream “I can’t breathe” with a knee on our neck, But turn around and put our own people in check? How we fight for justice, marchin’ in the street, But we steady losin’ soldiers to the beef in our own seats? We been fightin’ for years, from chains to the cell, From the whip to the system, from the block to the jail. Hear the echo in the night when another mama cries, Another candlelight vigil, another hashtag rise. They see us divided, we divided ourselves, Young kings fallin’ early, no chance to excel. While we pointin’ fingers at the badge and the gun, We gotta look in the mirror — what have we become? We chant “Hands up,” we chant “Don’t shoot,” But we shootin’ each other over pride and loot. It’s deeper than the color, it’s pain in disguise, Generational trauma livin’ behind our eyes. System set traps, yeah that’s facts, that’s real, But unity the weapon that they fear we might wield. They don’t gotta break us if we break us apart, Every bullet in the block hit the community’s heart. How we let it go up off us? How we let it repeat? Same cycle, different summer, same blood in the street. We been kings, we been builders, we survived the ships, Now we beefin’ over corners they don’t even own the bricks. “I can’t breathe” ain’t just words in the air, It’s the weight of oppression, it’s the load that we bear. But freedom start within, gotta change how we move, Can’t demand life matter if we takin’ life too. This ain’t blame, it’s a call to awake, Love stronger than the hate they helped create. We powerful together, that’s the truth they conceal, Revolution start in how we think and how we heal. So before we light the match, let’s spark up the mind, Build the next generation, leave the trauma behind. We been fightin’ for years — can’t quit, can’t lose, But the real victory? When we choose each other over the blues.
