I was raised to believe that marriage was forever—“till death do us part.” That belief came from my mom, and it was deeply rooted in me. So, when I found myself in an abusive marriage, I stayed longer than I should have, thinking that was what love and commitment were supposed to look like. But over time, I found the strength to walk away—not just for me, but for the sake of peace and safety. I didn’t stay, even though the world around me told me I was supposed to. Still, we stayed in touch until the day he passed away. He made his peace with me before he died. Do I hate him? A part of me does, because of everything I went through. But another part of me still feels something—because out of all the pain, I was blessed with two beautiful sons. They are my strength, my light, and the most precious part of that chapter in my life. I’ve survived. I’ve healed. And I’m still growing.
