Born in the city,

Born in the city, life was so pretty, an observer might discern, spoilt, in ev’ry way or concern, Obedient, and thankful, though in my way accepting, one never pulled rank, no need, it was progessing, without reason to object, to any of realities defects, life was a river, calm and composed, nosufferage, or reminder, of luck or grace, that happened in my space. Just the occasional suggestion, Life was too easy, no objection. Time passes and I get older, things get harder, life gets sharper, my mind reminds me, of my identity...slim and feint, no longer any constraint, what have I learnt, those times I got burnt, or laughed and talked, who would have thought that a day would come, when I’d account for fun, to rely on my drive, to look people in the eye, walk straight, not faint, frown, not cry, its about using the time right, before you die. Opportunity to succeed filled my heart with need, And 20 years pass and what I have is just me, I had fun, blew money not funny, Got an education with no use to the nation, Stress isn’t best, I confess, treading water, life gets shorter Jobs come and go, people too, Sweating outside, ruining my eyes, On screens that are mean, selling stuff no one needs. Time passes and I walk ‘down the road’, Still full of hopefulness, that I can’t feel my load, life has been tough, at times it was rough, but maybe like common experience, who knows. There’s been times I’ve been waiting, times I was hating, the envy of seeing, others’ ease of being, in my lap nothing fell, but a myriad of experience, on which I could dwell, I could be a joke, rejected and smoked, Other times accepted and admired by folk. Society- the cold sobriety, of a machine that is mean, Using all the people that forward it’s gain, At the bottom I remain! Nevertheless, without depressing you further, There is a recompense I deserve, Not in the value of people and use that can be, but in the quality and nature, of thoughts I have had in me. People come and go but in my soul I know, I’ve had a life well lived, nothing to forgive. A bit lazy, but who cares about the focus of someone else, And what they achieved in their conditions succeeded, They wouldn’t have in my shoes, they say, they didn’t lose, Wouldn’t have needed, to have half the pain, maybe refrained, from breathing the air or kicking through the leaves, fuck-the gall of mentioning at all, in my place they would have done this, and not nothing at all. Like water down a wall, each path not shared, Unless draughted in, to add impetus to theirs. Still optimistic to the end, Away from the naysayers I’ll fend. I’ll find my place, Maybe fallen from grace, But at least I know, in my life I have grown
