THEY SAY: WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIMS? Victims of who? Victims of the bandits' attacks! Oh! We condemned every attack in the most vehement voice like all conscientious people, like the Government, and Authorities do. It is sad, unfortunate, and regrettable. Fortunately, these victims have the Government agencies like NEMA, the security apparatus, Hospitals, and the Town people to condole them and assist them. Now, how about the victims of innocent Herdsmen in the forests. Victims of military excesses coined ‘collateral damage’, victims of the profiling that are lynched and killed because they are Fulanis by 'Yansakai, etc, their children decapitated, and their huts burnt? Victims that were expelled from their settlements against all constitutional rights of choice of abode. Victims whose cattle and livelihood were rustled or destroyed. Victims that were extorted by scrupulous elements of the forces, and they have no Government agencies like NEMA, the security apparatus, Hospitals, and the Town people to condole them and assist them. These voiceless victims we must also all stand up to protect. Without doing that, the vicious circle of violence cannot be broken because of reprisal attacks and revenge syndrome characterized in the psyche of all nomadic people. Until when we are honest, and fair to all victims, and call for the cessation of all hostilities, reconciliation, and forgiveness, we will not see the end of this mutual annihilation, each tribe claiming to be the victim. An Arab idiom says: every person cries for his Laila! Enough of this tribalism! The prophet – peace be upon him said: “leave tribalism it stinks” May Allah The Almighty quenches this fire of tribal animosities and brings peace and tranquility to our Nation. Amin
