burbs

Independently sprung, from the burbs I begun, Nurtured like an ice cream bun, love like mulled wine in the sun. Childhood memories from whence I begun, Opportunity to succeed, heart filled with need, 20 years pass, now all I have is me. Had some fun, blew money, not funny, Got an education with no use to the nation. Stress isn't best, I confess, Treading water, life gets shorter, Jobs come and go, sweating outside or ruining my eyes on screens that are mean. Time passes, walking down the road, Things get harder, light gets sharper. Another place, another sight, people progressing and growing, Like big jungle plants dwarfing me, a small pot collecting dust. Deviated from their places, they had become, My road gets narrow, buildings fade, In the desert, I find myself, trying to get laid, looking for shade. Out of luck, in a tenement house all by myself, Trees blowing in the breeze, wondering why I was on my knees. What to do in the weather? Carpe diem, Seize the day, get a job, no time for playing in the hay. No holiday, stress all the time, till I'm blind, one day I'll find... no time. Looking in the mirror, faces recurring in time, Changing, morphing, aging fine, flash and worry sets in my mind. Later quelled by the rising tide, when to grasp the bull by the horns, Go down a storm, beating the norm, time to form.
