Don’t worry y’all this rap won’t be a bore It’s time to learn about the revolutionary war So let’s head back to the past of our nation First stop- 1763 proclamation The British laid it down to our forefathers They said you can’t head west don’t even bother. The Colonists said “what? That isn’t fair” “We should be able to settle anywhere” They were getting mad but that’s just the start Now let me fill you in on next the part Then came the stamp act, a real bad caper The British were taxing documents and paper (Primary source) “ this is the price that America pays you for her protection” said William Pitt Whatever, Will was biased anyways, a Brit The Colonists were getting mad so what did they do? They took British officials and covered them with goo They tarred and they feathered, what an awful sight I’m glad I wasn’t a loyalist those nights Word We’re on to part 2 and ready to go Just roll with it you know this one won’t be slow The British pushed back it was quite abhorrent They taxed imported goods and searched without a warrant The Patriots made a slogan without hesitation They cried (Primary Source) “No taxation without representation” The Boston Massacre happened after and the British got out muskets The soldiers fired on a crowd and 5 people kicked the bucket Most earlier acts were repealed but not them all The tax on tea really cast a pall The patriots were not just gonna be martyrs So they spilled a bunch of tea right into Boston harbor They called it a party but it was not a celebration This spurred on the birth of our nation The British were mad, they couldn’t let that one slide So they hit them with more acts, hit them from the side They called them the “Intolerables” meant to punish those Patriots There were 4 in total and the colonists hated it Word On to part 3 it’s coming at you fast We’re gonna finish up all these acts First came the act that forbid outside traders The Boston Harbour looked empty with out the other sailors The next act really turned up the dial Really guilty Brits still got a trial Act number three, getting worse by the hour It changed up the MA government and gave the royals more power Last of the acts, got rid of house and home Allowed British soldiers to live free where they roamed The Patriots we’re getting serious no more nice greetings They got together and held an illegal meeting (Primary Souce) “Im not a Virginian, but an American” said Patrick Henry that day With the others in that room his statement held sway It was time to do battle, where at? Bunker Hill! The British took Boston but a lot of them got killed Word After that, Thomas Paine put out a publication It was clear writing that spoke to all of the nation. Now a lot more happened before we became our own country But these were the steps that really hit the money The Patriots were mad so they came together And the fought for a change that would last forever
