Kandake The queen of Ethiopia (Kush) mentioned in Acts 8:27 was one of many women who ruled in antiquity. Some kandakes ruled in their own right. Others ruled with their husbands and seem to have had equal power with the king. At least one kandake was the ruler while her husband was her consort.
